On-Site Racking Maintenance Training Delivered by SEMA-Approved Inspectors

At UK Rack Inspection Ltd, we’ve grown rapidly since our launch in January 2024, building on our core strengths in SEMA-approved racking inspectors and our highly regarded People Responsible for Rack Safety (PRRS) awareness training.

We are now delighted to introduce our Racking Maintenance Training course, designed to give your maintenance personnel the confidence to complete safe, appropriate remedial work between inspection cycles.

Racking maintenance training

What is Racking Maintenance Training?

Racking maintenance goes beyond identifying damage; it’s about understanding how to fix or replace damaged components correctly and safely.

This course bridges the gap between inspection and repair by giving your in-house team the skills, awareness, and competence to carry out low-level maintenance tasks in line with industry guidance — not just theory.

This training is delivered by our qualified SEMA-approved rack inspectors who also hold their SEIRS – Storage Equipment Installers Registration Scheme qualifications, meaning you get both industry standards knowledge and practical insight from people who do it day in, day out.

What This Course Covers

This course is strictly focused on reactive remedial maintenance following damage identified during inspections. The training covers:

  • Safe removal and replacement of damaged uprights
  • Safe removal and replacement of beams
  • Safe removal and replacement of frame bracing
  • Correct like-for-like component replacement
  • Safe systems of work, including exclusion zones and risk controls
  • Post-repair checks and documentation
  • Understanding when work must be stopped and escalated
The objective is to give delegates a clear, structured understanding of how remedial works should be carried out correctly, not just quickly.

What This Course Does NOT Cover

To avoid any ambiguity, this course does not include:

  • Rebuilding racking systems
  • Restarting or reinstalling racking from scratch
  • Racking reconfiguration or structural redesign
  • Engineering calculations or load re-rating
  • Any works requiring manufacturer approval or specialist installation teams
This clarity ensures organisations maintain safe boundaries of responsibility and understand when external specialist support is required.

Who Should Attend?

This course is ideal for:

  • Warehouse maintenance staff
  • Supervisors and team leaders
  • Facilities management teams
  • PRRS (Person Responsible for Rack Safety) delegates looking to extend their competence beyond inspection
  • Anyone involved in remedial tasks or replacement of racking components

What Delegates Will Learn

  • Correct removal and replacement methodology
  • Safe isolation and exclusion practices
  • Use of correct tools and PPE
  • How to record remedial actions correctly
Where possible, training is delivered on site, using your own racking system to ensure relevance.

What the Training Covers

Our Racking Maintenance Training is designed to be practical, structured, and site-relevant:

  • SEMA & HSE Standards Refresher Understands what good maintenance looks like under SEMA guidance and HSE expectations.
  • Identifying Components & Safe Replacement Uprights, beams, braces, baseplates, safety locks — what they do and how to replace them safely.
  • Correct Methodology & Risk Controls Isolation zones, risk assessment, RAMS, exclusion zones, tools and PPE — not just what can be done, but what should be done.
  • Documentation & Record-Keeping Maintaining accurate records to support inspection cycles, compliance audits, and due diligence.
  • When to Escalate Understanding which repairs are suitable for in-house teams — and when to bring in specialist installers or manufacturer support.

Why It Matters

The UK Health and Safety Executive’s guidance (HSG76) makes clear that racking should be inspected and maintained within an organisation’s management system before serious issues arise.

Our maintenance training ensures your team can safely correct serviceable damage between formal inspections, reducing downtime, improving compliance, and helping prevent costly failures.

Practical Skills for Real Warehouse Scenarios

Unlike generic classroom courses, this training is delivered on your site, tailored to your actual storage equipment, layout, and maintenance challenges. You’ll learn how to:

  • Safely remove and replace damaged components
  • Handle beam adjustments and brace replacements
  • Interpret load notices and protect against overload risks
  • Use practical checklists and logs that support your inspection regime

Certification & Competence

After successful completion, delegates will receive a Racking Maintenance Training certificate.

This serves as formal recognition of competence to undertake the tasks covered and can be a valuable demonstration of due diligence for audits and compliance reviews.

Rack Maintenance Training FAQs

Is this the same as PRRS inspection training?

Racking Maintenance Training is focused on safe remedial works, component replacement and the correct maintenance of damaged racking.

Yes. The course is positioned around practical, safe and compliant remedial work, helping in-house teams build competence in racking maintenance and safe repair practices between expert inspections.

We will guide delegates on the tools and PPE required for the tasks covered. For the practical elements of the course, we provide a full complement of Makita power tools, allowing delegates to focus on correct methods and safe working practices without the need to supply their own equipment.

Yes, maintenance training adds to your existing inspection regime without replacing annual expert SEMA inspections.

Yes, like our PRRS training, maintenance modules can be tailored to include both pallet and cantilever racking if required.

Yes. The website’s training distinction makes clear that Racking Maintenance Training is the route for safe remedial works and component replacement, rather than internal inspection competence.

Yes. The course is delivered nationwide at your site and tailored to your equipment and working environment, which helps minimise disruption and makes the training more practical for your team.

The website describes the training as being tailored to your equipment and site needs, rather than presenting it as a one-size-fits-all course. If you need training for a specific system or setup, it is best to confirm the scope when you enquire.

It is presented as an on-site course delivered at your premises, not as a public open course. That allows the training to be tailored to your team, racking systems and site conditions.
