Why PRRS Inspection training matters
Why invest in PRRS Racking Inspection Training?
- Reduced risk of racking collapse by spotting damage early
- Better compliance with HSE expectations and industry guidance
- Clear inspection records to show due diligence
- Less disruption caused by avoidable racking failures
- Better-informed teams understand how damage occurs and how to prevent it
What does HSE say?
HSG76: Warehousing and Storage – A guide to Health & Safety (second edition (2007))
643: Whenever a safety issue or damage is noticed by any member of staff, it should without delay be escalated to the PRRS. You need a reporting process in place for reporting damage and racking defects at your Lichfield site.
645: The PRRS should ensure that inspections are made at weekly or other regular intervals based on a risk assessment. A written record should be kept.
So what should you do?
What knowledge and skills will candidates have after course completion
By the end of the racking inspection training, your PRRS will be able to:
- Identify key racking components and why they matter structurally
- Spot common damage types (uprights, baseplates, beams, bracing, floor fixings and beam safety locks)
- Apply the Red / Amber / Green SEMA approach to damage classification (and what to do next).
- Check load notices and loading configuration basics
- Run a structured in-house inspection and produce a clear written record with photos
- Escalate correctly: what needs monitoring vs repair vs immediate action.
What Candidates receive
- PRRS certificate
- Practical inspection checklist
- Inspection record template, simple, audit-friendly
- “What good looks like” photo examples for your noticeboard / toolbox talks

Racking Inspection Training FAQs
Do we legally need a PRRS?
HSE guidance in HSG76 recommends a nominated PRRS and regular recorded inspections based on risk.
How often should our PRRS inspect?
Is this the same as an annual expert inspection?
No, PRRS inspections support safe operation between expert inspections. Expert inspections should be carried out by a technically competent person at suitable intervals, commonly referenced as at least every 12 months.
How many delegates can attend your racking inspection training courses?
We can typically train up to 10 candidates on our PRRS racking inspection training courses. We are fully adaptable to your needs with this and are always happy to discuss your individual requirements regarding course specifics and delegate numbers.
