Cantilever racking systems are often used to store oversized, heavy or irregular items that cannot be stored in standard pallet racking, such as timber, steel, piping and sheet products. For businesses in Nuneaton, keeping these systems in safe working condition is key to maintaining compliance and operational efficiency.
Due to the heavier loads and increased impact risks associated with cantilever racking, the potential for serious damage can be greater if damage is left unchecked. Our fully certified cantilever racking inspectors perform in-depth evaluations to spot defects, flag risks, and make you aware of any concerns before they escalate.
Throughout the inspection, our inspector will assess your racking system in detail to help keep your site safe, compliant and operational. With extensive industry experience, we can also offer guidance on damage prevention to reduce the risk of future damage, helping your business reduce costly downtime and operational delays.

Cantilever Racking Inspections FAQs
Why do I need to have a cantilever racking inspection in Nuneaton?
Racking and storage equipment is governed by PUWER (Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations) and is advised to be assessed at least annually by a technically competent person, something a SEMA-approved inspector is qualified to carry out.
HSE documentation also supports this recommendation, including:
- HSG76 – Warehousing and storage – A guide to health and safety
- Workplace health, safety and welfare regulations 1992
An annual racking inspection will confirm that your racking has been installed to manufacturer specifications, has clear weight loading information displayed, is correct and being used correctly for its current application, and is in a fit state for continued use.
What are the benefits of using a SEMA approved inspector?
- We will ensure the compatibility and suitability of your storage equipment
- Inspections carried out by fully approved inspectors recognised by the HSE
- We carry out an in-depth inspection process to provide you with a fully detailed report with clear locations and recommended remedial actions
- Supporting your business in meeting Health & Safety and PUWER requirements
- Check that your racking installation has been installed to the manufacturer’s specifications
- Confirm load notices are correct and relevant to your current setup
- Provide advice on areas showing repeated damage helping prevent the need for replacement components
- Evaluate pallet condition and load suitability on site
- Keep you informed on racking safety regulations and best practices
- Give an in-depth specification of the storage equipment
- Full client debrief following the inspection, where recordings can be found and guidance given
Aren’t all Nuneaton racking inspectors SEMA approved anyway?
The answer is no.
We always recommend requesting the inspector’s SARI number, which is a unique identification number assigned to each SEMA-approved inspector. This should be included on your racking inspection report.
You may also come across PUWER inspectors offering damage-only reports. Our concern with this approach is questionable compliance, as key structural and safety issues may not be identified.
Our view is simple, if you are looking for a racking inspector, why accept a surface-level inspection when you can receive a complete assessment from a SEMA-approved inspector?
Are annual racking inspections enough?
Racking inspections should be carried out at least once per year, as well as when racking systems have been moved or reconfigured.
In cases where work has been undertaken by installers who are not SEMA-approved (SEIRS), it is best practice that a thorough assessment is carried out before the system is put back into use to ensure it has been built to the correct standard.
In addition to annual inspections, routine internal checks should take place by trained personnel at regular intervals throughout the year.
Personnel responsible should complete racking awareness training and have a proven level of competency. They can then perform your internal inspections, which should be recorded to satisfy compliance and auditing standards.
Is guidance provided following the inspection?
Providing ongoing support after the inspection is a key part of our service, and through this approach have built strong working relationships throughout the country.
We are always on hand to offer help and guidance to ensure you remain one step ahead of all things racking safety and compliance related.
Although we operate as a fully independent inspection company, we do have highly recommended contacts within the storage industry, all of whom are recognised SEMA-accredited providers offering repairs and installations.
This information can be provided upon request if you require any follow-up work after your inspection.
