Cantilever racking systems are often used to store long-length and bulky materials that cannot be stored in standard pallet racking, such as sheet materials, timber, pipes, and other oversized goods. For businesses in Lichfield, keeping these systems in safe working condition is key to safe and efficient operations.

Because cantilever racks are often subjected to larger loads and higher impact risks, the likelihood of structural issues rises if problems go unnoticed. Our qualified cantilever racking inspectors carry out detailed assessments to identify damage, highlight areas of concern, and ensure you are aware of any issues before they lead to failure.

As part of the inspection process, our inspector will assess your racking system in detail to help keep your site safe, compliant and operational. With extensive industry experience, we can also offer guidance on damage prevention to minimise ongoing risks, helping your business minimise disruption and protect revenue.

Cantilever Racking Inspections FAQs

Why do I need to have a cantilever racking inspection in Lichfield?

Racking and storage equipment is covered by PUWER (Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations) and is expected to be checked at least annually by a technically competent person, of which a SEMA-approved inspector satisfies this requirement.

HSE publications also reinforce the need for annual inspections, including:

  • HSG76 – Warehousing and storage – A guide to health and safety
  • Workplace health, safety and welfare regulations 1992

An annual racking inspection will ensure that your racking has been installed to manufacturer specifications, has accurate weight loading information displayed, is correct and being used correctly for its current application, and is in a fit state for continued use.

  • We will ensure the compatibility and suitability of your storage equipment
  • Inspections carried out by fully approved inspectors recognised by the HSE
  • We carry out an in-depth inspection process to provide you with a fully detailed report with locations and remedial actions listed
  • Helping you achieve and maintain compliance with Health and Safety legislation and PUWER
  • Confirm your racking installation meets manufacturer specifications
  • Check load notices are accurate and reflect current racking configurations
  • Provide advice on areas showing repeated damage capturing issues before replacement components are required
  • Check pallets and loads are suitable for your racking system
  • Provide advice on racking-related health and safety matters to keep you compliant
  • Give an in-depth specification of the storage equipment
  • Detailed post-inspection debrief with clear guidance and access to findings

The answer is no.

Our advice is always to ask for the inspector’s SARI number, which is a recognised identifier assigned to each SEMA-approved inspector. This should be included on your racking inspection report.

You may also come across PUWER inspectors offering damage-only reports. We believe this approach raises concerns around compliance, as key structural and safety issues may not be identified.

Our view is simple, if you are looking for a racking inspector, why choose a limited report when you can receive a complete assessment from a qualified inspector?

An annual racking inspection is recommended, and also when racking systems have been relocated or altered.

Where repairs or installations have been completed by non-SEMA-approved installers (SEIRS), it is advised that a full inspection is carried out before the system is returned to operation to ensure it has been installed or repaired correctly.

Alongside yearly inspections, internal inspections should be conducted by trained personnel at set intervals throughout the year.

These individuals should attend a racking awareness course and have a recognised certification. They can then carry out your internal inspections, which should be documented to satisfy compliance and auditing standards.

Providing ongoing support after the inspection is a key part of our service, and through this approach have built long-standing relationships across the UK.

Our team is available to provide ongoing support and advice to ensure you remain in control of all things racking safety and compliance related.
