Cantilever racking

Cantilever racking is commonly used to store longer, heavier, or more awkward loads that are not suited to standard pallet racking, such as sheet materials, timber, pipes, and other oversized goods. For businesses in Kenilworth, ensuring these systems remain safe is essential to safe and efficient operations.

Due to the heavier loads and increased impact risks associated with cantilever racking, the likelihood of structural issues rises if damage is left unchecked. Our fully certified cantilever racking inspectors undertake thorough inspections to identify damage, highlight areas of concern, and ensure you are aware of any issues before they escalate.

As part of the inspection process, our inspector will examine your cantilever racking thoroughly to help keep your site safe, compliant and operational. With years of hands-on experience, we can also advise on preventative measures to minimise ongoing risks, helping your business reduce costly downtime and operational delays.

Cantilever Racking Inspections FAQs

Why do I need to have a cantilever racking inspection in Kenilworth?

Racking and storage equipment is governed by PUWER (Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations) and is advised to be assessed at least annually by a technically competent person, of which a SEMA-approved inspector satisfies this requirement.

This requirement is further supported by HSE guidance, including:

  • HSG76 – Warehousing and storage – A guide to health and safety
  • Workplace health, safety and welfare regulations 1992

An annual racking inspection will help ensure that your racking has been installed to manufacturer specifications, has appropriate weight loading information displayed, is correct and being used correctly for its current application, and is in a fit state for continued use.

  • We will ensure the compatibility and suitability of your storage equipment
  • HSE-recognised approved inspectors
  • We carry out an in-depth inspection process to provide you with a fully detailed report with locations and remedial actions listed
  • Helping you achieve and maintain compliance with Health and Safety legislation and PUWER
  • Check that your racking installation has been installed to the manufacturer’s specifications
  • Confirm load notices are correct and relevant to your current setup
  • Highlight areas prone to recurring damage helping prevent the need for replacement components
  • Assess the pallet and pallet load suitability on site
  • Keep you informed on racking safety regulations and best practices
  • Deliver a full breakdown of your racking system specifications
  • Complete client debrief after the inspection with guidance and findings explained

In short, no.

We always recommend requesting the inspector’s SARI number, which is an individual ID assigned to each SEMA-approved inspector. This should be clearly shown on your racking inspection report.

You may also come across PUWER inspectors offering damage-only reports. This type of inspection can lead to gaps in compliance, as important installation checks and health and safety issues may be missed.

In our opinion, if you are looking for a racking inspector, why settle for a basic overview when you can receive a comprehensive inspection from a qualified inspector?

Racking inspections should be carried out at least once per year, and also when racking systems have been relocated or reconfigured.

Where repairs or installations have been completed by non-SEMA-approved installers (SEIRS), it is advised that a full inspection is carried out before the system is used again to ensure it has been completed in line with requirements.

As well as professional annual checks, internal inspections should be conducted by trained personnel at regular intervals throughout the year.

Personnel responsible should complete racking awareness training and have a proven level of competency. They can then carry out your internal inspections, which should be logged to satisfy HSE and audit requirements.

Providing ongoing support after the inspection is a key part of our service, and as a result have built long-standing relationships nationwide.
