Cantilever racks are typically used to store longer, heavier, or more awkward loads that cannot be stored in standard pallet racking, such as sheet materials, timber, pipes, and other oversized goods. For businesses in Cannock, keeping these systems in safe working condition is critical to maintaining compliance and operational efficiency.

Due to the heavier loads and increased impact risks associated with cantilever racking, the risk of significant damage increases if issues are not identified early. Our SEMA-approved cantilever racking inspectors perform in-depth evaluations to identify damage, highlight areas of concern, and ensure you are aware of any issues before they lead to failure.

During the inspection, our inspector will assess your racking system in detail to help keep your site safe, compliant and operational. With years of hands-on experience, we can also offer guidance on damage prevention to reduce the risk of future damage, helping your business reduce costly downtime and operational delays.

Cantilever Racking Inspections FAQs

Why do I need to have a cantilever racking inspection in Cannock?

Racking and storage equipment is covered by PUWER (Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations) and is recommended to be assessed at least annually by a qualified professional, with a SEMA-approved inspector meeting this requirement.

HSE documentation also supports this recommendation, including:

  • HSG76 – Warehousing and storage – A guide to health and safety
  • Workplace health, safety and welfare regulations 1992

An annual racking inspection will confirm that your racking has been installed correctly in line with manufacturer guidance, has accurate weight loading information displayed, is suitable and used as intended for its current application, and is in a safe and serviceable condition.

  • Ensuring your storage equipment is suitable and fit for purpose
  • Fully Approved Inspectors as recognised by the HSE
  • We undertake comprehensive inspections, providing a fully detailed report with clear locations and recommended remedial actions
  • Helping you achieve and maintain compliance with Health and Safety legislation and PUWER
  • Verify your racking has been installed in line with manufacturer guidelines
  • Confirm load notices are correct and relevant to your current setup
  • Provide advice on areas showing repeated damage helping prevent the need for replacement components
  • Check pallets and loads are suitable for your racking system
  • Provide advice on racking-related health and safety matters to keep you compliant
  • Give an in-depth specification of the storage equipment
  • Detailed post-inspection debrief with clear guidance and access to findings

No, this is not the case.

We always recommend requesting the inspector’s SARI number, which is a unique identification number assigned to each SEMA-approved inspector. This should also be visible on your racking inspection report.

Some inspectors provide damage-only style reports under PUWER. This type of inspection can lead to gaps in compliance, as critical installation and safety risks could go unnoticed.

Our view is simple, if you are looking for a racking inspector, why accept a surface-level inspection when you can receive a full audit from a qualified inspector?

A racking inspection should be undertaken on an annual basis, and also when racking systems have been relocated or reconfigured.

If repairs or installations are carried out by a non-SEMA-approved installer (SEIRS), it is best practice that a professional inspection is carried out before the system is used again to ensure it has been built to the correct standard.

In addition to annual inspections, in-house inspections should also be carried out by qualified team members at regular intervals throughout the year.

These individuals should attend a racking awareness course and have a recognised certification. They can then undertake your internal inspections, which should be recorded to satisfy HSE and audit requirements.
